Jazz begin extension talks with Alec Burks, Enes Kanter

The Utah Jazz are looking to lock up two of their promising young players in shooting guard Alec Burks and center Enes Kanter.

"They’re both valued members and we’re really proud of where they’re at as people and as players," Lindsey told the Salt Lake Tribune. "We’ll see if we can get something done early … but we anticipate both of them being with the Jazz for a long time."

Both Burks and Kanter are entering their fourth seasons after enjoying breakout campaigns in 2013-14. Burks doubled his points per game average (from 7 to 14) and showed greater comfort with being a facilitator. Kanter, on the other hand, developed a mid-range shot and posted career highs in points (12.3) and rebounds (7.5).

The Jazz have inked two rookies to extensions over the last two seasons. They re-signed shooting guard Gordon Hayward this offseason and extended power forward Derrick Favors last summer.

Kanter isn't worried about a potential extension, but Burks is anxious to have his future resolved. "I hope it does," Burks said. "If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. It’s a business. I saw it work out with D-Fav before the season. I saw it work out with Gordon after the season."
