Mancini wants credit for City's success: 'Current team is playing nine of my players all of the time'

Roberto Mancini feels he isn't getting enough recognition for the job he did at Manchester City.

The Italian manager, who was fired by the club in 2013 after a three-and-a-half year spell that saw him capture two trophies, says the praise given to Manuel Pellegrini is not entirely deserved, as the new City bench boss is simply succeeding with the players he put in place.

Pellegrini captured both the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup last season, but Mancini highlighted players like Yaya Toure, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko as those he was responsible for bringing to the Etihad.

"I think that we started to build this team five years ago," he told FourFourTwo. "In two years we won the Premier League, the FA Cup – we won everything in England.

"And this current team are playing nine of my players all of the time. I am very happy with that because I know these players. I think it's not easy to build a strong team with only four or five years."
