Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt expects Jake Locker to play Sunday

Jake Locker may be able to start Week 8 when the Tennessee Titans take on the Houston Texans.

Locker was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins with a thumb injury. Charlie Whitehurst threw for 160 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 19-17 defeat.

After the game, Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Locker may be able to return to action.

"I would expect him being able to go next week but until we get out there and practice, I don't know that for sure," Whisenhunt said to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.

Whisenhunt provided his rationale for keeping Locker out of Sunday's contest.

"Obviously you worry about him turning the ball over and putting one on the ground if you miss a snap or do something with ball handling.

"That's ultimately what made the decision."

The Titans have struggled to a 2-5 record and will need a marked improvement from their quarterbacks if they are to fight back into playoff contention.
