VIDEO: Kevin Durant has scooter for repaired foot, says he won't rush return

Kevin Durant is not teammate Russell Westbrook, and he doesn't want Russell Westbrook to be Kevin Durant.

That was Durant's two-fold message Tuesday when speaking to the media for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot.

But first, check out how Durant's getting around while his hoof heals.

A fancy scooter has to be just a slight step below a Segway for the most baller mode of indoor-outdoor transportation.

Don't expect to see Durant doing anything more active than scooting around for a while, though. With a six-to-eight week recovery time frame, last season's MVP isn't set to be reevaluated for nearly six weeks, and he doesn't intend to rush his way back.

"Nah, I'm not going to rush it," Durant said. "That's one thing I'm not going to do."

Last season, Westbrook returned well ahead of schedule from a torn meniscus, only to later need a second spell on the injured list. That wasn't due to re-injury, but to address swelling in the knee.

The incidence of re-injury for a Jones fracture is relatively low when surgically repaired, so Durant is probably right to be patient and ease his way back. Even if he missed upward of 20 games, the Oklahoma City Thunder should be in good enough shape to still challenge for home court in the Western Conference.

In his stead, Durant doesn't want Westbrook to do anything differently than he has in the past.

"Stay who you are," Durant said when asked what he told his teammate. "You don't have to change what you do."

Westbrook has scarcely played without Durant the past few seasons, so it's tough to get a handle on how the Thunder offense will operate. The star point guard will need help, and Durant called this an opportunity for others on the team to have bigger roles and grow from that experience.

But even if they stumble, their leader won't be rushing back.
