NFL Draft Watch: Kevin White pleads his case as the draft's top receiver

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

NFL Draft Watch is your weekly guide for college players worth keeping an eye on leading up to April's draft.

On the Rise

Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

Alabama's Amari Cooper is widely recognized as the draft's top receiver, but Kevin White is pleading his case to be the first wideout taken in April's draft.

A tall, physical receiver with great hands, White has arguably been West Virginia's best player this season as the former three-star high school prospect has compiled 69 catches for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.

Couple those stats with the fact he has yet to have a game with less than six catches and 101 yards and you are likely looking at a future top-20 pick.

Everett Golson, QB, Notre Dame

There wasn't a lot of NFL draft hype surrounding Everett Golson coming into the season but his impressive playmaking ability has garnered attention from NFL scouts.

Considering he is 16-2 as Notre Dame's starter, coupled with an incredible performance in Saturday's nationally televised loss to Florida State, Golson may have snuck into the top five quarterbacks (pending which underclassmen declare for the draft).

If Golson does declare for the 2015 NFL Draft, he will likely be drafted higher than predicted based on his dynamic arm strength and ability to create plays with his legs.

Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State

Rashad Greene followed a six-catch, 107-yard performance against Syracuse with a dominant eight-catch, 108-yard, and one-touchdown game against Notre Dame.

An excellent route runner with great hands, Greene has only been held to under 105 yards in a game three times this season. He's caught 52 passes for 791 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.

There are likely to be a number of talented receivers in this years draft but for teams that miss out on the likes of Cooper, Ty Montgomery, Jaelen Strong, and Devin Funchess, Greene is shaping up to be a nice Plan B.

Stock Down

Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor

Bryce Petty had one of his worst games of the season against West Virginia, as the Bears' quarterback completed 16-of-36 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns  against the Mountaineers.

There have been concerns about Petty's decision making while under pressure and Saturday's game did little to mollify them.

Projected to go in either the second or third round, Petty may slip to the later rounds if has another outing like the one he had Saturday.

Luther Maddy, DT, Virginia Tech

On Tuesday, Luther Maddy announced that he will be undergoing another surgery to repair a torn meniscus he suffered in a September game against East Carolina.

The senior defensive tackle projected to be a third-round pick in this year's draft, however he will take a medical redshirt and return to the Hokies lineup next year instead of declaring for the draft.

We wish Maddy a speedy recovery. Hopefully the talented playmaker will be firing on all cylinders come next season.
