Report: Patriots' Chandler Jones expected to miss 'about a month' with hip injury

The New England Patriots' defensive front took a blow Tuesday, as one of its best players appears set to miss some significant time.

Standout defensive end Chandler Jones sat out team practice with a hip injury and is expected to be sidelined for about a month, according to the Boston Globe's Shalise Manza Young.

The team's trade acquisition of Akeem Ayers from the Tennessee Titans adds some depth in the mean time, but matching the production of Jones would certainly make for a tall task.

With the Patriots set to face a brutal stretch in the schedule, taking on some of the league's best quarterbacks over the next six weeks, losing their top pass rusher couldn't come at a worse time.

A 2012 first-round selection, Jones is coming off a dominant 11.5-sack season, and has led the team with 4.5 quarterback takedowns through seven games to start this year.
