Buccaneers' Josh McCown making progress

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown is happy with the progress he's made in his recovery from a thumb injury.

"It's just been a day-to-day thing, and every day it feels a little bit better," McCown said after Friday's practice, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. "It was good to get a little more work in this week and get a better feel for it."

It's unlikely McCown, who has been sidelined since Week 3, will get the start Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, but he could be activated as Mike Glennon's backup. That decision will be up to head coach Lovie Smith, McCown said.

"If I were to play at any time, I'd feel confident in playing," McCown said. "Whether that's this Sunday or a couple of Sundays from now - any time you go on the field, you better feel confident in playing."
