Scott Boras: Barry Zito wants to play in 2015
Barry Zito stressed that he wasn't retiring when he decided to sit out the entire 2014 season, and it now appears the 36-year-old left-hander is ready to pitch again.
Zito's agent Scott Boras said the three-time All-Star is working out near his Houston home and wants to play in 2015, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Zito, who won the American League Cy Young award in 2002, didn't actively pursue a new contract last winter when his much-maligned seven-year, $126-million deal with the San Francisco Giants expired.
A 14-year veteran, Zito fashioned a 5.74 ERA (60 ERA+) with a 1.70 WHIP over 25 starts and five relief appearances for the Giants in 2013.
