Falcao 'preferred' Juventus move over United, claims Marotta

If Radamel Falcao had his way, the Colombian striker would be playing for Juventus.

That's the message from Juventus' managing director Giuseppe Marotta, who claims that Falcao wanted to move to the Italian side during the summer transfer window, but ended up at Old Trafford on Sept. 1 due to financial reasons.

"We were following him and there was contact," Marotta told RAI. "We were very close to [signing] Falcao and the player preferred Italy and our colours, but then United came forward and they have much more spending power than we do so the deal broke down."

Marotta, who managed to sign Alvaro Morata during the summer and, more importantly, retain midfield duo Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, went on to address the increasingly dire state of the Italian game.

"The quality of our league has fallen behind. Serie A used to be the league everybody strived to play in, but it's no longer like that today. The best players want to play abroad."
