The Index, Week 8: Nick Saban's expenses and fat guy touchdowns

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

The Index is your definitive weekly guide to the real stories and controversies behind the latest college football headlines. This is everything you need to know, but on steroids.

Fat guy Touchdowns

Forget the fact that LSU upset Ole Miss or that Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah had a record-breaking day, the biggest storyline to come out of Saturday's games was the fact that a 6-foot-5 315-pound offensive tackle for Arkansas threw a six-yard touchdown pass to his long snapper in what the Internet has dubbed a fat guy touchdown.

While we don't condone the way it's being reference, Sebastian Tretola did beat out former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen to become the heaviest player in SEC history to throw a touchdown.

TCU’s Offense

TCU scored 82 points against Texas Tech on Saturday. That's more points than Mississippi State, LSU, Texas and USC scored combined.

Let that sink in for a second.

The Horned Frogs' next two games are against West Virginia and Kansas State. If Trevone Boykin and Co. can continue to light up the scoreboard, they will handily win the Big 12 and make a strong case for a playoff berth.

Meanwhile, we can't believe how Texas Tech's defensive coordinator still has a job after Saturday's smackdown.

Crowds storming the field

Nothing says our team just pulled off an unbelievable upset more than jumping out of your seat and storming the field.

But unfortunately for fans of teams like LSU, the SEC doesn't see it that way as the conference strictly prohibits fans from celebrating on the field for safety reasons.

Not that that stopped LSU fans from crowding the field after the Tigers' 10-7 win over Ole Miss, but the fact that the school got fined $5,000 for a display of rabid school spirit seems unfair.

We Don’t Like

Nick Saban expensing his $3.1-million home

Nick Saban makes just under $7 million a year coaching Alabama.

With that in mind, I'd say that the outrage that was sparked by the news about how the head coach's $3.1-million home was paid for by a private Crimson Tide foundation was warranted.

It's disgusting to think that Saban's multi-million-dollar house is, well, on the house when you consider that none of the players that helped win him those championships made a dime.

The college football world really needs to get its priorities straight.

We're Unsure of

Ross Bjork calling out a fan on Twitter

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork flexed his digital muscles by confronting a trash-talking fan on Twitter after Ole Miss's upset loss to LSU.

Come on, Ross. Don't let those pesky Internet trolls get the best of you. You're better than that.

With that being said, we really hope that the fan took Bjork up on his offer.

Justin Brent's mysterious date

(Unfortunately) one of the week's biggest stories had nothing to do with football.

Instead of focusing on the build up to last weekend's game, the country was fascinated by Notre Dame wide receiver Justin Brent's bye-week date with Lisa Ann.

A famous adult actress, Lisa Ann posted a picture of the two at a New York Knicks game on Instagram last week. That photo was quickly followed by a Deadspin post that featured a selfie of the couple in bed.

It's unclear as to whether or not Brent is in violation of Notre Dame's code of conduct, but we'd bet that this story isn't going away any time soon.

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee's rankings

Sure, the AP's Top 25 may be the most respected poll in college football, but that will change when the College Football Playoff Selection Committee releases its Top 25 rankings Tuesday night.

Not only will we get a clearer picture as to who the four teams closest to competing for a national championship will be, but we'll also know which games to keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.

Will Mississippi State be their No. 1 ranked team or will Florida State be atop the rankings? Also, how many SEC teams will they have in their Top 10?

Those questions will be answered at 7:30 p.m. ET.
