Cardinals' Fitzgerald on team's playing style: 'We're the San Antonio Spurs'

With a 6-1 record, the Arizona Cardinals sit alone atop the NFC West.

The Cardinals have used a combination of grit and skill to pull out several wins this season, and displayed a style that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald compares favorably to the reigning NBA champions.

"We're a blue collar, grind-it-out team right now," Fitzgerald told Dan Bickley of The Arizona Republic. "We're the San Antonio Spurs. We're not flashy. We'll take all those ugly, nasty, sloppy wins. But we're not even close to fulfilling our potential on offense. And it would be nice to put it all together."

Even as his position in the offense diminished early in the season in favor of the younger Michael Floyd, Fitzgerald didn't complain, and with Floyd struggling, the eight-time Pro Bowler exploded with seven receptions, 160 yards and a touchdown during the Cardinals Week 8 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

"There's nobody that loves Michael more than I love Michael," Fitzgerald said. "I watched him in high school. He lived with me for a year-and-a-half. Nobody wants Mike to do better than I. I want Mike to be a 1,500-yard, 10-touchdown guy, and he can be that player.

"I've never been selfish. I'm a joyful person. I'm happy regardless of what's going on. I know how good we have it in this country. We could be in Liberia without resources to combat the Ebola virus. We could be in Iraq persecuted by ISIS. That's not me saying I can't do it anymore or I don't want to do it anymore. I'm just saying there's enough to go around for everybody."
