New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom was named the 2014 National League Rookie of the Year.

The 26-year-old received 26 of 30 first place votes, beating out Cincinnati Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton and St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong.

Selected in the ninth round of the 2010 draft, deGrom built his candidacy with a strong second half featuring a stretch of 28 innings without an earned run - the longest such streak in the majors by a rookie since Matt Cain went 30 2/3 innings in 2006.

Though he didn't make his major league debut until mid-May, deGrom finished the season 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 140 1/3 innings. He went 4-1 while holding the opposition to a .185 average over his last five starts of the season.
