Robin Lopez heats up rhetoric with Brook, brings Mom into trash talk
The trash talk between the Lopez twins just got real.
To recap, Robin Lopez's Portland Trail Blazers will host Brook Lopez's Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, the eighth time the twin brothers have squared off in the NBA, and the first time in 20 months. It's not necessarily a marquee showdown, but it's an interesting wrinkle in what should be a fun game.
It's also led to some friendly trash talk, with Brook calling Robin an idiot and a moron, and Robin firing back that the Nets held Brook out last season not for an injury, but because they were sick of being around him.
In the days leading up to the game, Robin has continued to fire salvos at his higher-scoring sibling.
First, Robin told TrailBlazers.com that Brook was mostly just concerned about being the uglier brother:
I don’t think he’s too concerned with basketball. I think he’s a little more concerned that he’s not the best looking Lopez. That’s something that would bother him.
That designation probably depends on how much you like giant, floppy haircuts. One person who definitely prefers Robin, according to Robin himself, is their mother. Yes, Mrs. Lopez has been dragged into this.
As Robin told CSN on Wednesday:
I'm looking forward to it. I don't know if he is.
I usually let my game do the talking. If anything, I just have to warn him to not to come to the (Moda Center). Just don't even bother stepping foot in there because it's going to be an embarrassment from start to finish.
My mom's already rooting for me.
That's a bit below the belt. One has to wonder if Brook is going to be out for blood on Saturday night as a result. 7-foot Brotherfights, anyone?
