Report: No extension talks between Astros, Castro

The Houston Astros were unsuccessful in their efforts to sign Jason Castro to a contact extension last winter, and the club has yet to broach the subject with the former All-Star this offseason, reports Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.

Castro rejected an offer last winter worth roughly $10 million over his final two seasons of arbitration-eligibility with a pair of club options for 2017 and 2018, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. However, the 27-year-old regressed this past season and the Astros have yet to renew discussions about a long-term deal this winter.

Castro, who managed 1.2 WAR while hitting .222/.286/.366 with 14 home runs over 126 games in 2014, has stated his desire to remain with the Astros. The team selected him with the 10th pick of the 2008 draft.

Should the two parties fail to work out an extension, Castro is projected to earn $3.9 million through arbitration this coming season.
