Report: Colts, Cardinals tried to claim Ben Tate off waivers

Andrew Weber / USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings were awarded running back Ben Tate off waivers Wednesday after the veteran was released by the Cleveland Browns.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals also submitted waiver claims for Tate.

The Vikings were awarded Tate by virtue of having a worse record and, thus, a higher waiver priority.

Assuming Yates' report is true, it appears that both the Colts and Cardinals are dissatisfied with their running back depth. The former just lost starter Ahmad Bradshaw for the season to injury, while the latter has seen starter Andre Ellington's yards-per-carry average dip below 2.5 in consecutive games.
