Report: Blue Jays' Navarro expressed interest in trade after Martin signing

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Dioner Navarro wasn't exactly elated when the club signed free agent Russell Martin to a five-year, $82-million deal earlier this week.

Navarro, who signed a two-year deal with the Blue Jays last winter, is set to be usurped as the team's primary catcher in 2015 and expressed interest in being traded shortly after the club acquired Martin, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The club reportedly told Navarro he should receive decent playing time next season between designated hitter and the occasional start behind the plate, but the 30-year-old would prefer an opportunity to catch on a regular basis.

Consequently, the Blue Jays will likely explore trade opportunities for Navarro, who's set to earn $5 million in 2015, as they look to address holes in left field, second base, and the bullpen. Heyman reported that about three teams are showing interest in Navarro, who hit .274/.317/.395 (100 OPS+) with 12 home runs in a career-high 139 games last season.
