Report: Strong trade market for frustrated Jeff Green

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

In his fourth season in Boston and the second year of a rebuilding project, Jeff Green has grown tired of losing.

As the Celtics fell to 4-7 with a loss to Memphis on Friday, Green's disappointment with his surroundings boiled to the surface. The Georgetown product didn't mince words when Abby Chin of Comcast SportsNet New England asked him about his frustration following the game.

"All-time high," Green said. "I'm tired of losing."

Green has played well through the team's first 11 games, averaging a career-high 18.4 points with a career-best player efficiency rating of 16.5. Versatile but somewhere south of great on the defensive end, Green has lacked consistency despite the strong scoring rate.

If his frustration is causing that inconsistency, there may be a solution. The trade market for Green - who can become an unrestricted free agent this summer by opting out of his $9.2-million option for 2015-16 - is incredibly robust, according to CSNNE.com. It's even stronger than the market for impending unrestricted free agent Rajon Rondo.

"They're two totally different players and their roles with a team are different, too," a league executive told the news outlet. "But Green can do a lot of things to help just about any team, as long as you're not making him the guy you build around. Green's the guy you add to the guy you're trying to build around."

It shouldn't be all that surprising that Green is both available and coveted: he's a solid two-way player and his contract isn't onerous, especially if a team believes he'll opt out this summer.

Over seven seasons, the 28-year-old small forward has averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from long range. A lot of teams could use a steady, reliable, versatile piece if the price is right.
