NC State's Hakim Jones on North Carolina's Marquise Williams: 'He basically quits'

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

NC State safety Hakim Jones provided some bulletin-board material for North Carolina ahead of the rivalry game between the two teams.

Jones went on record Monday to call out Tar Heels quarterback Marquise Williams's toughness.

North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora got wind of the comments from the Wolfpack safety and took up for his starting quarterback, according to Andrew Carter of The News & Observer.

“Well Marquise will love hearing that, I guarantee you," Fedora said.

“Let me tell you what, I wouldn't question Marquise's toughness. If anybody, y'all have seen all of our games. You've seen how he gets hit, and what he does. So yeah - I haven't looked at a game and thought that he laid down for any reason.”

Fedora added that he'd prefer Williams actually take less hits, but the quarterback enjoys initiating contact with defenders.

The teams will meet at the Tar Heels' Kenan Stadium on Saturday at 12:00 pm ET.
