Report: Yankees won't get into bidding war for Chase Headley

Chase Headley is now the top free-agent target at third base after Pablo Sandoval signed with the Boston Red Sox, but don't expect the New York Yankees to be overly aggressively in their pursuit of him.

The Yankees will not get into a bidding war for Headley, reports Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.

Feinsand believes Headley will now command a four-year deal worth around $60 million, a result of heightened expectations now that Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez are off the market. The Yankees are only willing to do a three-year deal.

Headley, a much better defensive option at third than Sandoval, hit .243 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs splitting time between the San Diego Padres and Yankees last season.

The Bronx Bombers do have other internal options at third heading into 2015. The versatile Martin Prado could easily fill in at the position and Alex Rodriguez could factor back into the mix in April.

New York has been relatively quiet this offseason, only signing Chris Young to a one-year, $2.5-million deal.
