West Brom's Jonas Olsson to undergo Achilles surgery, expected to be out until new year

Surgery will be the next step in Jonas Olsson's attempt to recover from an Achilles tendon injury that has kept him on the sidelines since September.

The West Brom centre-back has been plagued by Achilles-related issues over the past few years, and the upcoming procedure, which will be performed by top Dutch orthopedic surgeon Professor Niek Van Dijk, will involve removing a piece of bone from the back of his left foot with the intention of relieving pressure.

"I have been struggling with this on and off for some time and I've come to the point where it feels like surgery would help it," Olsson told West Brom's official website. "The recovery time is short so I hope to be back 100 percent."

Olsson last played in West Brom's Capital One Cup win over Hull City on Sept. 24.
