Report: Angels expected to non-tender Gordon Beckham
The Los Angeles Angels aren't expected to tender infielder Gordon Beckham a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline, making the 28-year-old a free agent, according to Mike Digiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
Beckham, acquired from the Chicago White Sox in late August, is projected to earn $5 million in salary arbitration according to MLB Trade Rumors, a price tag the Angels don't see as worthwhile utility infielder.
Digiovanna notes that the Angels are still hoping to bring Beckham back - as insurance in case either Howie Kendrick or David Freese are dealt - but at a lower cost.
Beckham fell out of favor in Chicago after posting the worst statistical season of his six-year career in 2014. In 101 games with the White Sox, Beckham slashed .221/.263/.336 with seven home runs, 36 RBIs and 70 strikeouts. He did experience a resurgence during his brief stint with the Angels, hitting .268/.328/.429 with a pair of home runs in 56 at-bats.
