UFC 181 Fight Pass Prelims: Pettis, Collard emerge victorious

Sergio Pettis def. Matt Hobar via unanimous decision

Sergio Pettis used his technically superior striking to outclass Matt Hobar over 15 minutes in the final fight of the fight pass prelims.

Hobar floored Pettis almost immediately with a clubbing left hand, but Pettis was able to regain his composure and win the subsequent stand-up exchanges, while Hobar was able to put together some moderate success on the floor.

Pettis, who treated Hobar to a steady diet of head kicks once he found his rhythm, liquefied "The Crowbar" with a vicious body shot in the second frame. However, he was unable to put the resilient Texan away with the resulting flurry of punches, and Hobar was able to survive to see the final round.

The victory improves Pettis' MMA record to 12-1 (3-1 UFC), while the loss drops Hobar to 9-3 (1-2 UFC).

Clay Collard def. Alex White via unanimous decision

Clay Collard outlasted Alex White over 15 minutes, defeating him via unanimous decision in the evening's curtain-jerker.

Neither man had much interest in displaying any semblance of defense over the three-round affair, as they hurled sloppy combinations at one another, with Collard finding a measure of success with leg kicks and body shots.

Collard looked to finish White with what looked like a very tight triangle choke late in the second stanza, but "The Spartan" was able to survive and get back to his feet.

The pace slowed considerably in the third round, and both men were clearly gassed as they exchanged wild strikes in hopes of landing a home run punch that never materialized.
