The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to trade left-hander Wade Miley to the Boston Red Sox, according to multiple reports.
Miley, who is under control until 2018, could be a solid middle-of-the-rotation piece for the Red Sox, who lost out on signing Jon Lester. The 28-year-old Miley went 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA in 33 starts for the D-backs last season, but will now face greater opposition on a regular basis in the hard-hitting American League East.
The D-backs will get right-handers Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa and another minor leaguer as part of the deal. Both hurlers have had a taste of the majors. De La Rosa went 4-8 with a 4.43 ERA in 18 starts for the Red Sox in 2014, while Webster posted a 5-3 record with a 5.03 ERA in 11 outings.
New Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart has been busy wheeling and dealing this offseason, bringing in pitchers Robbie Ray and Jeremy Hellickson, signing Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas and trading catcher Miguel Montero.
The Red Sox, however, surely have more work to do in order to beef up their pitching staff. Miley will join Clay Buchholz and Joe Kelly in the rotation, which still lacks a top-end starter.
