Report: Rangers working on deal with Kyuji Fujikawa

The Texas Rangers are on the verge of bolstering one of the league's weakest bullpens from one season ago, as the club is reportedly working on a deal with veteran right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa, according to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.

The club's reported one-year deal with Fujikawa, a close friend of Rangers ace Yu Darvish, is believed to be pending a physical, as the 34-year-old returned from Tommy John surgery during the latter stages of the 2014 campaign.

Fujikawa enjoyed an illustrious 12-year career with the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese Pacific League before signing with the Chicago Cubs prior to the 2013 season, but his success has yet to translate to the major leagues. Over parts of two seasons with the Cubs, Fujikawa owns a 5.04 ERA despite posting a 27.2 percent strikeout rate and a tidy 7 percent walk rate across 27 appearances.

The Rangers' bullpen, though, authored the seventh-worst ERA in the majors last season, and the likely departure of free agent Neal Cotts - along with the club's decision to non-tender Alexi Ogando - provides little reason for optimism.
