Report: Blue Jays interested in Nationals GM Mike Rizzo

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays are casting a wide net in their reported search for a replacement for president and CEO Paul Beeston.

Toronto is interested in Washington Nationals president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN

The news comes just days after the Blue Jays were linked to executives from a number of other teams, including Terry Ryan of the Minnesota Twins, Dan Duquette of the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox's Kenny Williams.

Beeston was rumored to be out as early as this season, but Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reported the Blue Jays will keep Beeston at least through 2015.

Rizzo, however, told the Washington Post on Saturday that he has "not been contacted by the Blue Jays" while adding that his "sole focus in on the Nationals."

Rizzo, who took over as general manager in 2009, has helped guide the Nationals to a pair of division titles and playoff appearances in two of the last three seasons.
