Lakers beat Timberwolves on Kobe's historic night
Against the backdrop of one all-time great passing another, the Los Angeles Lakers managed to capture their seventh victory of the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves by a score of 100-94.
All eyes were fixated on Kobe Bryant's pursuit of Michael Jordan's third-place standing on the all-time scoring list. Bryant entered the game eight points shy of Jordan, and managed to surpass that total with a pair of free-throws in the second quarter.
With Bryant's spectacle in the rearview mirror, the two teams settled in to play a hotly contested second half. Both teams traded punches back and forth, with neither squad pulling ahead by more than double-digits.
The Timberwolves managed to tie the game at 94 with just over a minute left in the fourth, but Bryant countered with a deep 3-pointer to give the Lakers a lead they would not relinquish.
Bryant finished as the Lakers' leading scorer with 26 points on 7-of-20 shooting, while power forward Carlos Boozer came off the bench to give the Lakers 22 points.
The Timberwolves were led by forward Shabazz Muhammad, who dropped 28 points along with nine rebounds.
