Grizzlies snap Warriors' 16-game win streak
For the first time since Nov. 11, the Golden State Warriors have experienced defeat.
The league-leading Warriors had their 16-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in Memphis, where the Grizzlies held them to 41 percent shooting in a 105-98 victory.
Marc Gasol (24 and seven) and Zach Randolph (17 and 10) combined for 41 points and 17 rebounds, while Mike Conley added 17 points, five assists and four steals.
In the matchup of the NBA's top two teams. the Grizzlies got an added boost from Vince Carter, who came off the bench to put together his finest game of the season, pouring in 16 points and knocking down four 3-pointers.
Klay Thompson's 22 points led the way for the Warriors, while Marreese Speights continued his strong play off the bench with 18 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes.
Stephen Curry, arguably the early season MVP favorite, struggled through a rare poor shooting night. Curry scored 19 points on 9-of-25 shooting, which included a 1-of-10 performance from behind the arc.
With the victory, the Grizzlies (20-4) moved within a game of the Warriors (21-3) for first place in the Western Conference.
The Warriors' focus will now shift to Andrew Bogut's health status, as the big man revealed earlier on Tuesday that his knee injury is worse than originally believed.
