Report: Rays' Myers could be dealt to Padres as part of 3-team trade involving Nationals
It appears like a foregone conclusion that Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Wil Myers is on his way out.
The latest trade speculation has Myers landing with the San Diego Padres as part of a three-team deal involving the Washington Nationals.
The deal could include the Padres' 2014 first-round draft pick Trea Turner, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
Turner, a shortstop, would have to be included as a player to be named later based on MLB rules that don't allow teams to trade recently-drafted players until one year after they've signed. The earliest Turner's inclusion in the deal could become official is June 13, 2015 according to J.J. Cooper of Baseball America.
Rosenthal says the Nationals would get Turner and right-hander Joe Ross from the Padres. Ross is the younger brother of Padres right-hander Tyson Ross.
Myers, Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan and Tampa Bay minor-league left-hander Jose Castillo would head to the Padres.
The Rays, meanwhile, would land catcher Rene Rivera and minor-league pitcher Burch Smith, as well as first-base prospect Jake Bauers from San Diego. Tampa Bay would also acquire lefty Travis Ott and outfielder Steven Souza.
Rosenthal also reports that competitive-balance picks could be involved in the deal.
