Kendrick Perkins: Rondo 'wanted out' of Boston

Rajon Rondo maintained that staying in Boston was always a possibility, but former Celtics teammate Kendrick Perkins said what everyone already assumed.

"He wanted out, but he would never say that though," Perkins said of Rondo, as reported by Yahoo Sports' Mark J. Spears.

"I'm happy for him. I'm not happy he is in the West, but I'm happy for him," the Oklahoma City Thunder center said. "His time was probably up in Boston. He did his due."

"He was cool, happy. He was excited," Perkins said of a Thursday night phone conversation with Rondo. "He's going to a contender. He's 29 so rebuilding is out of the question now."

The rebuilding Celtics, or at least head coach Brad Stevens, saw things differently.

Rondo and Perkins won a championship together in 2008, with Rondo starting at point guard for a Celtics team that went to The Finals twice and the Eastern Conference final three times over a five-year span.
