Japanese hurler Kenta Maeda re-signs with Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda doesn't appear to begrudge the Hiroshima Carp for denying him the opportunity to sign with an MLB club this winter, as the 26-year-old right-hander re-signed with the club Wednesday, less than two weeks after the team announced they would not make him available via the posting system.

“The club not only valued my results but also the way I played,” the 26-year-old told the Japan Times after signing his new deal at Mazda Stadium.

Though his team opted not to make him available to MLB clubs this winter, Maeda remains optimistic he'll be able be to take his talents stateside after the 2015 campaign.

“I am thinking this (going to the majors) is close to becoming a reality. Hopefully I can go in the offseason next year,” said Maeda.

Maeda, who had reportedly drawn interest from several MLB teams, fashioned a 2.56 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP over 27 starts last season, posting a 3.85 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 179 innings.
