Greg Oden reached plea deal for felony battery charge
Former No. 1 overall pick and currently on-sabbatical NBA player Greg Oden reached a plea deal on felony battery charges on Dec. 23.
Originally scheduled to stand trial on Oct. 22 for a charge of Level 5 felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury and multiple misdemeanor charges, Oden's hearing had been pushed back multiple times. On Dec. 23, Oden reached a plea deal with the State of Indiana.
According to court documents, Oden had the felony charge and two misdemeanors dismissed, agreeing to plea to a Level 6 felony of battery with moderate bodily injury. Oden was fined $200 and sentenced to 909 days probation, with mandatory domestic violence counseling and Alcoholics Anonymous classes, with a no-contact order to remain in place.
His probation can be transferred out-of-state, an important note in the event he returns to the NBA. That's not something Oden is thinking about, as of his last public comments.
