The Cleveland Browns are eyeing former Chicago Bears assistant Matt Cavanaugh for their vacant offensive coordinator position, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The Browns are on the hunt for a replacement for Kyle Shanahan, who parted ways with the team Thursday.

Cavanaugh spent the last two seasons as the Bears' quarterbacks coach. Before that, he served as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets (2009-12) and Baltimore Ravens (1999-2004), where he earned a Super Bowl ring.

The Browns would be a natural fit for Cavanaugh, as he worked with head coach Mike Pettine in Baltimore and New York, and at the University of Pittsburgh. According to Cabot, Cavanaugh was instrumental in getting Pettine a job with the Ravens in 2002 as a video assistant.
