Juventus admits interest in Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but deal unlikely

Juventus general director Beppe Marotta admitted the club is following Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but concedes a deal is unlikely to materialize at the moment.

The Italian side was heavily linked with a move for Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder earlier in the transfer window, but that deal seems to have collapsed due to the Turkish club's €20-million valuation of the veteran.

"The January transfer window is dubbed the 'repair transfer market' and we do not need to repair anything, so we will only use this window to take advantage of any potential opportunity," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia, as reported by ESPN FC, prior to Juventus's 3-1 win over Napoli on Sunday.

"We had really hoped (to sign) Sneijder, but we feel we don't want to complete any deal which is so financially significant."

Mkhitaryan has emerged as a possible target in lieu of Sneijder, but Marotta was noncommittal regarding the club's interest in the Armenian.

"Mkhitaryan, like (Porto's) Rolando, is a player who would work well within our project," he said. "Yes, he is on our list, but at the moment he is just a hypothesis."
