Report: NHL issues threat reminding GMs not to let players skip All-Star game

If you're an NHL player who has been named to the 2015 All-Star game, you better be ready to spend your All-Star break in snowy Columbus, Ohio. 

The NHL reportedly reached out to general managers around the league this week to remind them that they've suspended players for suspiciously skipping the All-Star game in the past, and they're prepared to do it again, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

"Colin Campbell of the National Hockey League has called general managers," Dreger said during an Insider Trading segment on Tuesday. "To say: 'Don't forget - we more or less suspended Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk when they failed to appear in 2009.' They had to miss one game following the All-Star weekend with the Detroit Red Wings.

"So that warning has been issued to all. If you're healthy enough and you've been voted on or you've been appointed by the NHL as a player - you better be there."

So if you've been upset on behalf of one of your favorite players who was snubbed from All-Star participation, perhaps this is a good reminder to relax. They'll get to enjoy spending time in Cabo with Joe Thornton, rather than shivering in Columbus.
