Report: Jameer Nelson will report to Nuggets after playing time assurances
It's been an unfamiliar season for veteran point guard Jameer Nelson.
After spending 10 consecutive years with the Orlando Magic, Nelson was waived this offseason, kicking off a strange tour. Nelson signed a two-year, $5.6-million deal with the Dallas Mavericks in July but was flipped to the Boston Celtics on Dec. 18.
Nelson was unhappy with his role in Boston and was subsequently shipped to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
After leaving the rebuilding Magic and agreeing to play with the title-contending Mavericks only to wind up in a minor role with the rebuilding Celtics, Nelson can be forgiven for having trepidations about landing in Denver, where it appears the Nuggets are beginning a teardown of their own.
That was the case, but Nelson has been given assurances about his minutes and the team's style of play, and will report without issue, according to David Aldridge of NBA.com.
Nelson stands to be the primary backup to Ty Lawson on a team bereft of guard depth, though Lawson's workload may not see Nelson average the 25.4 minutes he was receiving in Dallas.
In 29 games between Dallas and Boston, Nelson is averaging 6.8 points and 4.4 assists, but shooting an unsightly 34.3 percent from the floor.
