A shocking comeback could be in the works after Brazilian superstar Ronaldo offered his services to play in the second tier of American soccer.

Ronaldo is a minority owner of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League and didn't rule out appearing on the pitch for the club while speaking at a news conference Wednesday.

"I will train a lot, and if the coach needs me, maybe (return to playing)," Ronaldo said, courtesy of the BBC.

The 38-year-old's fitness has made headlines in the years since he retired from football in 2011, but he didn't seem phased by the task of getting into proper form to make an impact.

"It's easy to get in shape - you have to train. To play a soccer game you have to be in very good shape so I will try," he said.

"I'll start another challenge and I'm sure it will help the league and it will help the team and help soccer in America."

If he's able to suit up with the Strikers, there will be a chance for Ronaldo to reunite in a head-to-head battle with Raul, his former teammate at Real Madrid, after the 37-year-old Spanish striker signed with the New York Cosmos in October.
