A disastrous season for Hamburg stands to get worse as the club announced Friday that midfielder Lewis Holtby is expected to be sidelined for 10 weeks due to a broken collarbone.

Holtby, who suffered the injury during Hamburg's friendly versus Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, will undergo surgery that will be performed by team physician Dr. Gotz Welsch.

"This is obviously very bitter for Lewis," manager Joe Zinnbauer said. "I'm incredibly sorry for him. We will support him with all our resources."

The 24-year-old is a key component of Hamburg's midfield, and the timing of his injury couldn't be worse, as the club are floating just above the Bundesliga's relegation zone with only 17 points from 17 fixtures.
