Toronto Blue Jays right-hander R.A. Dickey is hoping to turn back the clock in 2015.
Heading into his age-40 season, Dickey is optimistic he can return to his previous Cy Young winning form from 2012 despite his age - thanks in large part to the deception of his signature pitch.
"Usually guys are going the other way," Dickey told Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star. "So that just shows you that the (knuckleball) is capable of defying that metric that says, 'OK, for sure you're going to digress as you get older.' With this pitch it doesn't matter, and because of that I really believe that I can return to my 2012 numbers. Everything is still there."
Dickey's transition to the American League East hasn't been a resounding success. Over the past two seasons, he's posted a 28-26 record and 3.97 ERA in 440 1/3 innings with Toronto, after fashioning a 39-28 record and 2.95 ERA in 616 innings as a member of the New York Mets.
