Report: Blue Jays, Padres, Yankees among teams interested in Johan Santana

Andrew Innerarity / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees are among six teams reportedly considering a flier on veteran left-hander Johan Santana.

Santana's latest comeback attempt is also drawing interest from the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman's report doesn't identify the other three teams said to be considering the 35-year-old pitcher.

Santana, who tore his Achilles tendon last summer while working to resume his career with the Baltimore Orioles, is scheduled to make his second start since June on Thursday. He threw two scoreless innings in his Venezuelan Winter League debut last week.

Santana's agent said his client is motivated to end his career on a positive note.

"He doesn't want to go out because an injury put him out," Peter Greenberg told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN in early January. "He's worked very hard and kept himself in shape, and he's never thought about retiring."
