Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal stayed hot on his first shift against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Staal benefited from a bounce off a Lightning player's stick on a centering pass for his ninth goal in 12 games, opening the scoring for Carolina 22 seconds into the contest.
The Hurricanes entered the All-Star break with a 6-3-0 record in January as a result of Staal's scoring and the improved play of goaltender Anton Khudobin.
