Phil Davis says he'll take Jon Jones down and keep him down

Phil Davis thinks he'd be able to accomplish something against Jon Jones that not even Olympian Daniel Cormier could pull off: Take the champion down to the floor and hold him there.

"I'll get (Jones) down and keep him down," Davis told reporters while promoting UFC on FOX 14, according to MMAFighting.com's Marc Raimondi. "That is a fact. Put me on the record."

Cormier, one of the finest wrestlers in the sport, wasn't able to control the UFC light heavyweight kingpin on the mat, managing a single takedown over 25 minutes while falling victim to Jones's wrestling on multiple occasions.

"I'm not sure how much he tried to," Davis said of Cormier's commitment to wrestling against Jones. "He went for a couple takedowns early on and then he just started putting hands on him. I mean, he definitely did wrestle. But at the same time, he kind of got away from it."

Before Davis can scale back up the 205-pound mountain to test his wrestling against the champ, he'll have to best Ryan Bader at UFC on FOX 14 on Saturday night.
