Team Foligno made a statement in the first event at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday night, earning a sweep of Team Toews in the Fastest Skater event.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Phil Kessel opened the event by edging Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin.

Jonathan Drouin of the Tampa Bay Lightning posted the fastest time of 13.103, beating out Mike Hoffman of the Ottawa Senators.

Montreal Canadiens right winger Jiri Sekac defeated Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, and Buffalo Sabres fan favorite Zemgus Girgensons beat St. Louis Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko, who stumbled early and failed to recover in time.

Team Foligno took a 5-0 lead in the Skills Competition by virtue of winning all four matchups and earning a bonus point because Drouin posted the fastest individual time.
