Robin Lopez promises further mascot assaults: 'On a mission from God'
Robin Lopez hasn't been spending his weeks on the sidelines just observing and growing a terrific beard.
Instead, it appears Lopez has been plotting his continued assault on the mascots of the NBA. Well-known for his attacks on the friendly avatars of teams around the league, Lopez was called out on Twitter on Monday by Grantland's Zach Lowe, the foremost authority of all things mascot.
Lowe had been hoping to confront Lopez about his mascot attacks on Monday, but the Portland Trail Blazers' visit to face the Brooklyn Nets was postponed due to weather. Instead, Lopez and the Blazers will travel to face the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Lopez not only avoiding Lowe's wrath but finding his next target.
Lopez believes his systematic takedown of the league's mascots is a Blues Brothers-like call from God, and it really is beginning to seem like he can't be stopped.
He could be in tough in Cleveland, basically left to fight Moondog with just one hand. Lopez has been on the shelf since mid-December with a hand fracture, one the team thinks he may be able to return from by the All-Star Break.
