New England Revolution re-sign Juan Agudelo

After a brief soiree in Europe, Juan Agudelo is back with the New England Revolution.

The club announced Friday that they have re-signed Agudelo, pending a physical and an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

The 22-year-old left the club at the end of the 2013 season after scoring seven goals, opting to make the move to Europe. He signed a contract with Premier League side Stoke City, but after being loaned out to Dutch club FC Utrecht and making a minimal impact, his contract was allowed to expire.

As noted in an official statement by the Revolution, he was able to be re-signed without going through the MLS allocation process because he left the club at the expiration of his contract in 2013, meaning the team retained his MLS rights should he ever want to come back to the league.

"Juan is a player that we always knew that we would be interested in welcoming back to the club if the opportunity presented itself, and now it has," general manager Michael Burns said. "He is familiar with our club, our coaches, many of his teammates and the system that we play so we are confident that he will be able to fit right in and help us straight away."

The Colombian-born attacker, who has 18 caps with the U.S. national team, took to Twitter to display his excitement over the move.

Jeff Carlisle of ESPN FC reports that Agudelo's contract will run through 2018, and he will not be a Designated Player for the Revs.
