The expiration of Quincy Miller's second 10-day contract with the Sacramento Kings may not mean the end of his tenure with the team, after all.

Miller's second deal lapsed on Sunday, leaving the Kings with a decision to let him walk or sign him for the remainder of the season, as teams can only give each player two 10-day deals. With Miller gone, the Kings have an open roster spot that Miller could reclaim soon enough.

After All-Star Weekend, during which Miller will participate in the D-League All-Star Game, the two sides will work toward a rest-of-season contract, according to Shams Charania of RealGM.

The Kings have a small financial incentive to wait until after the break, even if it means playing without Miller on Tuesday and Wednesday. By waiting, the Kings not only keep the roster spot open and maintain flexibility ahead of the Feb. 19 trade deadline, but also avoid paying Miller a salary during the week-plus time off.

That runs the risk of Miller signing elsewhere, a legitimate possibility given how he's played. A 2012 second-round pick, Miller failed to impress in two seasons with the Denver Nuggets but has rehabilitated his stock in the D-League. In 14 games there, he's averaging 26.3 points and 7.7 rebounds, shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 35.6 percent from long range.

In six appearances with the Kings, Miller saw 61 minutes of action, scoring 17 points with 12 rebounds, three assists, six steals and three blocks.
