Mike Zimmer: Vikings won't look for a running back in free agency
Suspended running back Adrian Peterson won't be eligible for reinstatement until April 15, but that isn't a concern for Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.
Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, Zimmer said the Vikings have no intention of scouring the open market for a running back.
"We're not going to look for a running back in free agency," Zimmer said. "I don't believe we're going to go out and pay somebody a bunch of money."
Zimmer also spoke highly of Peterson.
"In my opinion, he's a darn good person," Zimmer said.
Vikings general manger Rick Spielman was equally complimentary towards Peterson on Wednesday, calling him a key part of the organization and saying that he expects him to return next season.
"I think our whole organization is on that same page (about wanting Peterson back)," Spielman said. "What team wouldn't want an Adrian Peterson talent? He's (a) unique player that you don't see come around too often and Adrian's been a key part of our organization. He's made a mistake. He's doing everything and he's got to follow through and rectify and do the things the NFL is requiring him to do."
