Colts GM admits team told NFL about concerns over footballs used by Patriots

Brian Spurlock / USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts notified the NFL of the New England Patriots' questionable handling of footballs prior to this year's AFC Championship game, general manager Ryan Grigson confirmed Thursday.

"Earlier in the week, we notified the league of our concerns," Grigson told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine.

As CSN New England's Tom E. Curran suggests, if the Patriots were not also informed of the concerns, it could bring the NFL's role in the matter into question as well.

"We're just doing our jobs, trying to make sure we give our team the best chance to win on a level playing field," Grigson added.

While the league's investigation into the Patriots is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks, details continue to emerge at a rate that would suggest the story won't be going away any time soon.
