Ameer Abdullah made up for a slow 40 time with a solid showing in the vertical jump. The leg strength the event requires is a good indication Abdullah could be a power back at the next level. He is also finished at the top in the broad jump and 3-cone drill.
David Johnson and Jay Ajayi are projected by many to go in the middle of the draft and their results here won't hurt that. However, the likelihood of their efforts bumping them up significantly is slim.
John Crockett, though, who figures to be on the cusp of not being drafted, may have been able to turn some heads with his performance.
Other Notable Performances
- Jeremy Langford, Michigan St. - 34.5"
- Duke Johnson, Miami - 33.5"
- Kenny Hilliard, LSU - 27"
Both Jeremy Langford and Duke Johnson finished in the middle of the pack, but Johnson's result should be more troublesome. He hasn't been terrible in the combine, but has yet to elevate himself to the level of Abdullah or Melvin Gordon.
Kenny Hilliard didn't do himself any favors by posting the worst mark among the group. He is projected as a seventh-round pick at best, and this won't help his cause.
