Celtics' Sullinger out for the season with fractured foot
Injuries continue to afflict the Boston Celtics.
The latest blow comes at the expense of power forward Jared Sullinger, who will miss the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in a metatarsal bone of his left foot, reports Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.
Sullinger was pictured in a walking boot earlier in the week.
The 22-year-old Sullinger is averaging 14.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season. He's played a huge hand in the Celtics' surprising success this season, appearing in 51 games before succumbing to his injury. Sullinger was a reliable option in the low post and an occasional floor spacer.
The Celtics' depth will be tested without Sullinger. Thanks to some brilliant coaching from Brad Stevens, the Celtics are within two games of a playoff spot in the East.
Luckily, the Celtics acquired a few useful pieces at the trade deadline that could help soften the blow of losing Sullinger. Newcomer Jonas Jerebko is a steady option as a small-ball four and the addition of point guard Isaiah Thomas should mitigate the loss of Sullinger's scoring output.
Sullinger was drafted 21st overall in 2012 by the Celtics, where he's spent the entirety of his career.
