You may remember Josh Shaw from the bizarre circumstances surrounding his ankle injuries, in which he concocted a story about saving a drowning child. But Shaw has put that behind him and teams like him as a hybrid defensive back. At 200 pounds he may be better suited as a safety after this bench press.
Trae Waynes, the top corner in the draft coming into the combine, got off to a good start with a solid bench press. He needs to prove to scouts he can cover in a press-man so this is a good sign.
Other Notable Performances
- Kevin White, TCU - 18 reps
- Marcus Peters, Washington - 17 reps
- Ronald Darby, Florida St. - 12 reps
Kevin White and Marcus Peters both did what they needed to do. Peters is supposed to be the best press-man corner in the draft so it's a little surprising he didn't bench better. Seventeen reps is respectable, however.
Ronald Darby is known for his speed but if he wants to compete outside on an island he'll likely have to get stronger. A low 40 time Monday will erase his poor bench press.
